The Temple of Debod, originally from ancient Egypt and 2,200 years old, was a gift from Egypt to Spain in gratitude for its collaboration in saving the Nubian temples following an international appeal by UNESCO. According to ancient Egyptian funerary texts, the god Amun, father of all deities, takes the form of a cat. Legend has it that a feline, coincidentally a symbol of Madrid, roams the temple at nightfall, a sanctuary that the Nubian king Adijalamani ordered built in his honor.
