The Temple of Debod, originating from ancient Egypt and 2,200 years old, was a gift from Egypt to Spain for its collaboration in rescuing the temples of Nubia following an international appeal made by UNESCO. According to ancient Egyptian funerary texts, the god Amun, father of all deities, assumes the appearance of a cat. Legend has it that a feline, coincidentally a symbol of Madrid, wanders through the temple at nightfall—a sanctuary that the Nubian king Adijalamani ordered to be built in his honor.
